ANANTARA ESSOUIRA

The proposed Anantara Resort & Spa will be located adjacent to the historic coastal town of Essaouira, Morocco. The site, overlooking the Atlantic Coast and the UNESCO World Heritage listed medina, led to a master plan that invokes this ambiance, offsetting the villa clusters so the spaces between form a sequence of intimate walkways, punctuated by a series of tranquil courtyards.

The villas cascade along the site’s contours, revealing views from private roof terraces over the surrounding landscape. The architecture further enhances the atmosphere of the medina – self-contained, riad-style walled residences with rooms focused around a central open courtyard and swimming pool.

The walkways gradually open out onto iconic public buildings, tying in elements of local architecture, balanced within landscaped spaces. In addition to the pool villas, the resort will offer a tranquil library, a central swimming pool surrounded by sunken cabanas, a hammam & spa wellness centre, two restaurants with outdoor dining facilities, and a Moroccan lounge set in the Kasbah-styled tower.
